Quarter 3 2018 Dates & Styles

Registration Opens: after Quarter 2’s results are announced

Entries Due: Saturday, July 21st, 2018

Results Announced : Sunday, August 12th, 2018

Styles:

You are welcome to brew any style of beer that you’d like! Want to give us something simple yet tasty like a Blonde Ale? Do it! Want to submit a Chocolate Imperial Chipotle Pepper Bacon Stout? Do it! Anything goes. During judging similarly styled beers will be grouped together. We understand this is relatively subjective but we promise to use our best judgement in sorting entries (ie; we won’t put a Cream Ale with Stouts).

Wild Card Beer: Brew a beer with any flavoring extract (could be peppermint, cocoa, pineapple – use your imagination!)

**Please note: Each quarter is limited to 100 entries each. Get your entries in early but please commit to turning in your beers! It’s really unfair to take up space with your registration and then not enter a beer.

Rules for the Wild Card entry:

1. You may create any style beer you desire (IPA, Belgian, lager, etc.), however you must use all of the ingredients listed above. You may use any amount (large or small) but remember, you are being judged on how well you integrated their flavors/aromas/sensations into the final beer. Brewers are on their honor to use all ingredients listed.

2. When entering your beer, you will be prompted to list a classic style used to create your beer. Not all entries will fit neatly into a traditional style but if yours does, it may help the judge to determine how to drink and assess your beer. However, it is not necessary to list a base style when entering so don’t sweat it if you can’t classify your beer.

3. Do your research on the ingredients! This part of the competition is meant to challenge your brewing chops and stretch your knowledge of how flavors work in beer.

4. Don’t feel you need to be limited to the ingredients listed above. Oak, fruit, other spices, various grains & hops, yeast blends, bacteria…the list goes on & on. The only limit is your creativity!

When does the registration end for quarter 3? And wasn’t the wild card hop mosiac? Why did it change?

The Mosaic crop for 2014 experienced a flood and was scrapped. I didn’t want to include a hop that some would have a hard time getting.
